Kerry Washington for LA Times Magazine

Gorgeous pictures of Kerry Washington for the LA Times Magazine.  These dresses by Manish Arora are phenomena.  Much respect for the hair and make-up artists (Chuck Amos and Sam Fine) that worked on the shoot.

I don’t purchase a lot of magazines since I work in media and most of them are available at my office, but I’m definitely going to track down and pick up a copy of this.

See more images and read the article here.

Friday Video: Cee Lo – F**k You

“F**k You!”, titled “Forget You” on the radio edit (“F. U.” on Sirius), appears on Cee Lo Green’s third studio album, The Lady Killer.  A version of the video was released on YouTube on August 19, 2010, featuring kinetic typography, with the lyrics of the song appearing on different colored backgrounds with film grain overlaid.  The official music video was released on September 1, 2010.

The video shows Cee Lo at different stages of life crushing on a girl that pays him no mind.  At the end of the video the tables are turned and Cee Lo’s in the position of Lady Killer.  He drives in his fancy car (while she is working as a cleaner) and basically waves her off telling her “F U” is so many words.  The colors here are so bright and spunky.  It really adds to the song’s funny nature.

I saw Cee Lo in concert at a Heineken sponsored event a few weeks back and he sounds just as good in person as he does on this track.  A big congrats to him on his four Grammy nominations.

WARNING: This is the uncensored version at it’s NSFW.  Pull out those headphones if you’re sitting in a cubicle.

I’m actually a big fan of the original typography themed video.  If you are too or are unfamiliar with this, check it out here.

Have an enjoyable weekend!

Friday Music Inspiration: Notorious B.I.G.

This is such a cool image of the late and great B.I.G.  I love the way that the artist captured his signature tilted head pose and the use of color here is lovely.  I’m so sorry that I can’t source the artist here since the Tumblr page I found it on didn’t give these references.

I’ve recently come across a couple of other images of Biggie including a wall mural around my neighborhood in Brooklyn.  I want to share these with you guys so stay tuned for these visuals in the coming weeks.

Kenny Scharf NYC Mural

Dope mural by pop-artist Kenny Scharf.  Located on Houston & Bowery in NYC, it was done freestyle since Kenny didn’t sketch or plan out the work prior to executing.  That’s kinda rad.

Color Muse: Mengly Hernandez

AOC: Where are you from?

Mengly: I am from Manhattan, NY.

AOC: What do you do?

Mengly: This is where it gets interesting… I am a wardrobe stylist/print artist that designs tote bags, jewelry, and body oils. You can get some of my tote bags and body oils at Georgia’s (89 East Houston Street, New York  – (646) 827-2428) , Linhardt Design (156 First avenue between 9th and 10th street) or on etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/mengly).

AOC: How does color inspire you?

Mengly: Color inspires me immensely.  Like music, it alters my mood.

AOC: If there was one color used to describe you, what would it be and why?

Mengly: Red, for example, makes me feel regal and grand. Red is very interesting.  I love to wear the color red in doses.. for example red lipstick or a red shawl, but my favorite objects are in red and i cant get enough of them ( red clock, red curtains, red ceramic… i love it all).

AOC: What’s your favorite movie?

Mengly:  One of my favorite movies is Respiro, but i have soooo many it wouldn’t be fair to call it my favorite.

AOC: Where’s one place that you always wanted to travel to and why?

Mengly: I am really wanting to go to India and of course back to Africa.  I would love to visit India and buy many textiles in different colors and textures.  It would be a treat if I could work with masters who dye and print textiles using blocks and other printing techniques…

AOC: Where can we find you?

Mengly: You can find me and/or my work at http://www.marnieroseagency.com (styling portfolio), http://www.etsy.com/shop/mengly (tote bags, prints and scarves)
http://numero3.tumblr.com/ (blog) and at Georgia’s and Linhardt design for my jewelry and bags.

I’ve been following Mengly’s work on Tumblr for a few months now and I’m so happy to feature her today.  Thanks so much for taking the time to be interviewed, Mengly!

Suno Spring 2011 Collection

Fun looks from the Suno Spring 2011 collection.  I love the way that the designers mixed patterns on the model to the far right.  So bold.
