Friday Video: Common ft. Mary J. Blige – Come Close

Common’s “Come Close” features guest vocals by Mary J. Blige and is produced by Chad Hugo and Pharrell‘s production team, The Neptunes.   It appeared on Common’s 2002 album Electric Circus and was the only single on the record to make an appearance on the national music chart.  The song’s lyrics are a loving marriage proposition to Common’s then girlfriend Erykah Badu.

Enjoying the use of red, yellow and green.  I’m especially jealous of Common’s pants.  I’ve been looking for a pair in that color for months!

I must be a sucker for love because the lyrics here move me no matter how often I hear this song.  (sigh)

Ok everyone, have a fantastic weekend!

Sphoena Jewelry

When I got a Facebook message from my friend, Sana, on a new jewelry design project she was developing I was blown away.  Using a series of decorative papers, paint and other mediums, Sana has created variety of unique jewelry pieces. Each pair is designed, colored, and shaped by hand.

These earring are gorgeous.  I had a hard time picking which items to post.  There was just too much to choose from.  I swear having creative friends is so inspiring!

Check out Sana’s Etsy shop, Sphoena, here.

Chuck Taylors

I was talking with my friend, Allan, the other day when he declared that you cannot live in Brooklyn if you don’t own a pair of Chuck Taylors.  Now I thought that this was a pretty bold and sweeping statement, but yet again that’s typical aL.

Although I already own a pair of army green graffiti inspired Chucks, the conversation drove me to visit the Converse site to check out the latest selection.  I’m diggin’ the black and white Dr. Seuss ones shown in the above center.  That would probably be an awesome conversation starter.

Check out the Converse site to see more varieties or to custom design your own pair here.

Kanye West – ‘Runaway’ Movie

This past Saturday, Kanye West premiered his film “Runaway” on MTV, MTV2 and BET.  The movie is about Kanye and his complicated and short-lived relationship with an out of world phoenix played by model, Selita Ebanks.

The film is a visual masterpiece.  Incredible cinematography, amazing use of color and of course a fantastic soundtrack to match.  There are so many great scenes.  Kanye has outdone himself once again and anticipation for his forthcoming fifth LP, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, has only grown as a result.

See the movie in it’s entirety on Kanye’s website here.  Also check out his MTV interview on thoughts on the film and reason for developing it here.

Friday Music Inspiration: Nicki Minaj Album Cover – Pink Friday

There won’t be a Friday video since I’ve been kinda crazed and working on making some edits to the site (you should see them next week so stay tuned), but I wanted to share this album cover with you all.

Love her or hate her, no one can deny the force that is Nicki Minaj right now.  This album cover is interesting to say the least.  I really like the soft pink that’s used and those Alexander McQueen shoes are so fly.

I’m loving her verse on Kanye’s “Monster”.  Take a listen to it here.  The album with hit shelves on November 22nd.
