Friday Music Inspiration: Wu Tang Clan “C.R.E.A.M.”

This dope typography from designer Razauno got me thinking about Wu-Tang Clan and how much I loved their music growing up.  With tracks like “Method Man” and “Protect Ya Neck” Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is definitely one of the most well-respected hip-hops albums of all time.

I remember jammin’ to this track with my sisters, jumping around the TV and throwing our fists up.  Those were good times.

Check out the video.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Dancing Smoke Video

This music video by Iceland’s Ólafur Arnalds is breathtaking.  The smoke appears to be moving with the music and the song ‘Ljósið’ is incredibly therapeutic.  Check it out.

Tamasyn Gambell Scarves

Fun prints on these scarves by Tamasyn Gambell.  The tights that the model in the top left is wearing doesn’t appear to be on the site, but they’re pretty funky.

Bananas!

This is a great quote and another thing that’s interesting here is that this wall was entirely made out of bananas.  Bonkers right?

Diggin’ the colors here since they remind me of the Packers’ victory over the Steelers this past Sunday.  Yay!

Friday Music Inspiration: Erykah Badu Acrylic Painting

This beautiful painting of Erkyah Badu was created by Atlanta based artist Corinne Stevie.  I love the colorful and clown-like effects in this work.

The tipping of the hat reflects the true Badu style.

Color Muse: Aretha Rutherford

AOC: Where are you from?

Aretha: London, England

AOC: What do you do?

Aretha: Digital Artist

AOC: How does color inspire you?

Aretha: Color inspires me to go beyond… It motivates me, it moves me and it triggers my curiosities through out the design process. Then as soon as I apply the right color or colors to any subject that I’m working on it will set the mood of the piece and compel me to move beyond convention.

AOC: If there was one color used to describe you, what would it be and why?

Aretha: Oooh that’s a tricky one. I think I can see myself as different colors at different times. But right now I guess I can relate to yellow ochre because of its warm earthy tones. Ask me again tomorrow I’m sure it would be something else, maybe fuchsia.

AOC: What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekend?

Aretha: Oh dear this might sound really boring but i like reading a lot, my bedroom is filled with books, organised chaos of course!  I often find myself reading more than one book at a time. Books about art, creativity, innovation, design and the Bible. Or I’ll read online all sorts about technology trends or human interest stories.  I find it helps to keep my thinking fresh and just inspires me. Then I’ll go and immerse myself in my next creative vision and be gone for hours.

AOC: What was the last good film you saw?

Aretha: I thought 500 days of Summer was great. The mixture of genres, the use of illustration, narration, the whole retro feel and the cinematography. I could go on…

AOC: What advice do you have for other fellow artists?

Aretha: My greatest lesson in recent months has been “know who you are, then own it”.  When that has been achieved you develop a sense of acceptance, clarity, purpose, and the capacity to celebrate your own uniqueness and who you are as an artist. You can then approach your work with a greater sense of confidence and be liberated to share it with the world.

AOC: Where can we find you?
Aretha: You can visit me at my online home aretharutherford.com or sneek a peek at my design journal beyondgingerland.com.
Aretha is our first international Color Muse.  Thanks so much for being with us today, Aretha!
