Dom Perignon & Andy Warhol Tribute

I’ve really been into package design as of late, so when I read about the Dom Perignon and Andy Warhol tribute in UPTOWN magazine I was intrigued.

Dom Perignon partnered with the Andy Warhol Foundation and the Design Laboratory at Central St. Martin’s School of Art and Design to come up with a collection of three red, yellow and blue bottles that are reflective of Warhol’s artistic style.  The limited edition bottles are currently on sale, but won’t last long.

Check out the short promotional video.

Friday Video: Erykah Badu – Bag Lady

“Bag Lady” is the first single from Erykah Badu’s 2000 album Mama’s Gun.  The video was shot on a mini DV digital video, giving it the authentic feel of a home recording. The camera follows women down the street (free of heavy baggage) in their beautiful garments giving the appearance a rainbow of color.  The colors represent a renewal of the spirit.

I love this song’s message of feminine empowerment, encouraging women to let go of their emotional baggage and move on to build healthy relationships.

I’m seeing the movie For Colored Girls tonight with my friends so I thought this video was quite fitting.  Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Friday Music Inspiration: Pablo Lobato

Interesting work from Argentinian illustrator Pablo Lobato.  He’s built his reputation by creating fantastic illustrations of actors and musicians such as Julia Roberts, Morgan Freeman, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West.

Pablo’s portfolio is available here.  Several more of his illustrations can also be seen here.

Epic Works of Typography

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile then you’ll know that I’m a little obsessed with typography.  When my friend, Q’aid, shared the link to 10 Steps’ 44 Epic Works of Typography Art on Twitter I swear that I stopped breathing for a good 20 seconds.

Typography is fantastic because not only are designers literally communicating a message, but they’re doing it in an artistic manner by twisting the alphabet in new and intricate ways.  Pushing the limits of design, but still keeping the lettering principles intact.

With regard to branding and packaging, I just love the way that fonts and lettering can convey emotion within a consumer further enhancing the product experience.

Check out all 44 epic works here.

Andy Rementer Typography

Cool typographic design by Andy Rementer.  This was done for the 2009 Don’t Believe the Type group exhibition in the Netherlands.  Such a witty name for a typography show.  I love it.

Andy’s portfolio of illustrations and designs can be found here.

Kate Spade Skirts

Now that it’s getting cooler I need to let go of my little minis and start thinking about incorporating some longer skirts into my wardrobe.  Kate Spade has a great selection of styles including A-line and pencil cuts.  The models above also lend guidance as to how you can add some extra color to your look with a cute pair of tights.

Check out the website here for more of the selection.

How Colors You Hate Can Lead to a Job You Love

I recently became aware of a great article on Careerbuilder.com on how colors you dislike can tap into your psychological profile and indicate what type of job is best for you.

My least favorite color is green.  According to the Dewey Color System’s study this means my independent, responsible nature allows me to work for long periods of time without any support.  I know how to build a strong team and will even adopt co-workers as if they were my family.  This is pretty true about me, but I’m on the fence about the adoption part.  :)

Outdoor Beauty: Harlem

I was in Harlem this weekend when I saw this new development.  I had to capture the image since you don’t come across buildings that look like this every day.  Great design.

Location: 40W 116 St. @ Malcolm X Blvd.

Grandpa Cardigans

I should have know that these cardigans would be all the rage when I saw my younger sister (forever the trendsetter) wearing one last winter.  I really like the patterns on these.  Especially the simplicity of the cream and gray sweater on the lower left.

Available at Urban Outfitters.
