Goodbye Summer, Welcome Fall

Where DID the summer go?  Feels like it just began.

This past season was amazing.  It brought the birth of my new niece and I had the opportunity to see many friendships blossom and grow.  The summer also marked a special time for me when I saw a passion ignite within.  I started this blog and decided to continue my education.  As a result, I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time.

Since I see change as a natural part of our self-actualization/evolution, I’m looking forward to seeing what the new season will bring.

Goodbye Summer.  Welcome Fall!

Murakami Exhibition at The Chateau de Versailles

Takashi Murkami’s work is being exhibited at France’s The Chateau de Versailles now through December 12th.  If you’re lucky enough to be traveling out there I strongly recommend stopping by to check this out.

I had the opportunity to see his work at the Brooklyn Museum back in 2008 and was blown away by how amazing it all was.  See more of his awesomeness here.

Duro Olowu Winter 2010 Collection

Bright orange pieces from Nigerian-born designer, Duro Olowu.  His collections often display a vibrant mix of African prints, seventies tailoring, and unlikely color combos.

I want a pair of those orange striped leg-warmers.  Don’t really know where I’d be going in those, but they look like fun!

Stripes, Stripes and More Stripes from Prada

Color and stripes from the Prada Spring 2011 collection.  I’m happy that stripes will still be in style next spring.  I kinda went hard with that trend this year.

Friday Video: Nas feat. Lauryn Hill – If I Ruled the World

Nas’s “If I Ruled the World” was released in 1996 and features Lauryn Hill.  The single was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance and became Nas’s first single to gain mainstream success. Lauryn’s verse was inspired by the song “Walk Right Up To The Sun” by The Delfonics.  The lyrics feature Nas discussing the various things he would do if he “ruled the world and everything in it”.

The video’s production carried a big budget and was directed by Hype Williams.  I really like the way the lighting changes during the Times Square scene and the sepia tones of the neighborhood shoots.  These remind me of old photographs.

On a personal note I really like this song’s theme.  If I ruled the world we would all be free to pursue what we love without the worries of earning a paycheck to maintain our living.  I think this would encourage out of the box thinking and help channel creativity.

Enjoy the weekend!

Illustrator/Designer: Brian Gossett

Great work by illustrator/designer, Brian Gossett.  The detail in the “Make Music Not War” piece merges my love of color and shapes.  Also, wouldn’t the world really be a happier place if there were more records and less violence?

Spring 2011 Missoni

Pretty colors and designs from the Missoni Spring 2011 line.  I see Mexican and African influences in these pieces.  Tribal prints are all over the runways these days.
