Friday Video: The Roots – Don’t Say Nuthin’

The Root’s track “Don’t Say Nuthin'” appeared on their sixth studio album, The Tipping Point.  The song earned the group a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group.  The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard album chart.

The video has an almost animated appearance and mainly features Black Thought, MC Tariq Trotter, playing a variety of characters such as a pimp, police officer and criminal.  I really like the look and feel here.  There are a series of great colors throughout.

At the time of release, the album/track was criticized as having too  pop-oriented a sound since the Roots were previously known for their political insight, and social commentary, but I think it showed the group’s versatility and ability to appeal to the masses.  Good stuff in my book.

Have a good weekend!

Free Download: PTAYP 2 – Last Call for Alcohol

My good friend and fellow blogger, Darien Victor Birks of flwrpt, has recently created a head-banging party mix titled PTAYP (Play This at Your Party) 2: Last Call for Alcohol.  It contains hits we all know and love from artists such as Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne, Pharell and Beyonce .  This mix is sure to get your feet moving.

Another thing to note about Darien is the fact that he’s not only a master mixer, but he’s also a talented designer.  He created the album art shown above  I love the clean simplicity in his work.

PTAYP 2 is the second installation of this party mix series.  To listen/download click here.  Part 1 contains hits from The Neptunes, The Roots and Mobb Deep.  See here for more.

AOC: If there was one color used to describe you, what would it be and why?

Maya: All of them, since I was young I was never able to pick a favorite color!  I think we all have the ability to change colors, my goal is share beauty and light, whatever colors they may be.

Friday Video: Brandy & Wanya Morris – Brokenhearted

The “Brokenhearted” remix is a duet by Brandy and  Boyz II Men lead singer, Wanya Morris.  It appears on Brandy’s self-titled debut album, Brandy, and was released as the album’s fourth and final single in August 1995. The song peaked at number 9 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Brandy’s third domestic top ten hit.

The video is directed by Hype Williams and was filmed inside the Oheka Castle in Spring Hills, New York.  It contains so many beautiful scenes, it was really hard for me to pick out my favorites.

Really gorgeous stuff.

Have a great weekend!
