I hope you all had an amazing weekend! I’m kicking off the week with a new series called Color Muse. The series is to showcase artists, designers, fashionistas – anyone who uses color to ignite their creativity.
If you or someone you know is interested in being featured, shoot me an email at amanda@theaudacityofcolor.com or drop me a line on the Contact page.
My first guest is Dawn Okoro.
AOC: Where are you from?
Dawn: I was raised in Lubbock, Texas, but moved to Austin for college and lived there several years. I moved to New York City a year ago.
AOC: What do you do?
I am a visual artist. I mostly paint, draw, and take photographs.
AOC: How does color inspire you?
Dawn: Color helps set the mood for a painting. For example, red may convey a sense of power, while blue may produce a more serene, calm mood.
AOC: If there was one color used to describe you, what would it be and why?
Dawn: Green would describe me best because it is peaceful.
AOC: Where can we find you?
Dawn: You can view my work and info about upcoming shows at http://www.dawnokoro.com.
Many thanks to Dawn for sharing her work with us. Be sure to check her out!
Aaliyah’s “One I Gave My Heart To” is the sixth and final single from her second album One in a Million. The song was written by Diane Warren and the album version was produced by Daryl Simmons, while the single version was produced by Guy Roche. The track was the most successful song on the album, debuting at number 24 on the Billboard 100 list and peaking at number 9.
The video uses a warm browns/sepia tones and has a rain scene – two popular themes in 90’s videos.
I remember listening to this song on repeat during those “tough” high school break-ups. Clutching my chest and burying my face in my pillow for hours while wondering if my heart would ever be whole again. Gone are those days, but it remains to be one of my favorite Aaliyah songs followed closely by “One in a Million”.
The 25th of this month was the 9th anniversary of her death. I can’t believe it’s been so long.
R.I.P. Aaliyah. You’ll never be forgotten.
Love the psychedelic prints on these appetizer plates from CB2. No reason why you need to stick to traditional white dinnerware in your home. Have some fun with it!
More details on CB2’s website here.
My friend sent me these pretty sunglasses yesterday since they reminded her of my apartment. She’s right on the money because my living room is all about earth tones.
I’ve been so lazy this summer and haven’t done a thing to improve my home decor. I’m thinking about doing some painting, so I’ll be sure to post some before/after pics of the place as I work the details out.
Check out more fashionable retro glasses from Etsy seller Vintage50’sEyewear here.
I love these fabulous bags by Nixon. The hobo bag shown in the top row is useful in holding a lot of items, while the smaller clutch can be worn on a Saturday night, providing a burst of color to a little black dress.
The asymmetrical cut is just too cool.
Available on Karmaloop: Reed Low Slung Hobo by Nixon, The Smith Clutch by Nixon
I am so ready for the fall. I’m looking forward to a new start and of course fall fashion.
I love this leaf necklace from Tell Me Lucille. See more of their jewelry including a really cool lightning bolt necklace at their Etsy shop here.
Fun watches by Jermaine Dupri and jewelry designer, Pascal Mouawad’s collaboration – Nu Pop Movement. The designs have been described as the infusion of pop culture and music.
More of the collection can be found here.
