Notorious B.I.G. Artwork

It’s not Friday, but I wanted to share this beautiful painting/sketch my friend sent to me of the late Notorious B.I.G.  Love the way the watercolors blend to replicate his iconic Coogie sweater.  I’ve come across so many paintings and illustrations of Biggie since starting this blog (see past posts here and here), it’s clear that he’s a legend whose talents are greatly missed.  I was just talking to my homegirl about what hip-hop would be if he and Tupac had lived….

Sad that I can’t credit the artist, but the Tumblr page I found it on didn’t make reference to it either.  The Tumblr page is pretty cool though.  Check it that here.

Friday Music Inspiration: Strange Talk Interactive Video + Giveaway

Next Monday August 15th, Australian indie pop band Strange Talk will be debuting the official video for their single “Climbing Walls”.  The video will be interactive allowing viewers to click images for a chance to win special items.  Full details have yet to be released, but one thing that I know is that it’s going to be colorful and stylish.  Check out a behind the scenes shot of some of the dancers on set below.

Bright tights and headbands – diggin’ the 80s flair.  Can’t wait to see more!  RSVP to Monday’s premiere here.

In the spirit of partnership, one of the brands working with the band sent over a mystery box to a few color bloggers with some of the items featured in the video.

I opened the boxes shortly after taking these pictures I’m really pleased by what’s inside.  I’ll be sharing details on the brand as well as giving away some of these items next week.  Stay tuned for more details.

In the meantime, if you’re unfamiliar with Strange Talk, I’ve included the promotional video for “Climbing Walls”.  Also check out their Facebook fan page here for more music.  Have a great weekend!!

Illustrator: Tabitha Bianca Brown

Kicking off my Friday music related posts early this week with these illustrations by Tabitha Bianca Brown.

These will appeal to the true hip hop heads.  The last piece features Queen Latifah, paying tribute to her iconic hat and bold earrings.  Get these and more including a dope print of Janelle Monae at Tabitha’s Etsy shop here.

Confetti Eggs

Apparently in Mexico these confetti filled colored eggs are used for celebrations.  Created and then smashed all across town to mark the festivities,  I only can imagine the clean up.  Sounds frightening really.
I can’t see this catching on in NYC, but one can hope right?  :)

Patterns from Anthropologie

Loving all the patterned items now available on Anthropologie.  I’m thinking about a lot of oranges and browns as we approach the fall in a few weeks.  The skirt in the upper right is to die for!

Crayon Rings

Each of these crayon rings are unique and has a semi-precious stone embedded in its body.  Created by Israeli artist Yael Friedman, as a collaboration between Moss and Gallery Loupe this is a great example of wearable art.

A ring you can actually draw with.  Love it!  More info here.

Friday Music Inspiration: Amy Winehouse

Today wouldn’t be complete without a few words in memory of Amy Winehouse.

Known for her raspy and soulful sounds, Amy Winehouse will be remembered as a pioneer paving the way for today’s top acts such as Lady Gaga and Adele.  Hits such as “Tears Dry on Their Own” and “Love is a Losing Game” off the  Back to Black album will live on and will mark her as one of the best artists of our time.

Rest in peace, Amy.
